5 Resources I Used In The Early Stage of My Web Development Journey

Here are my 5 favourite resources I used to help me progress with learning and getting better at web development

The web development/programming industry continues to grow exponentially and you won't be short of resources to keep yourself up-to-date on the latest technologies. But if you are a beginner and you have finally decided to start your journey in web development, you may find yourself ending up in a sea of resources and figuring out where to start or what resources to use, can be a devastating task.

So to save you from the trouble of finding the suitable most valuable and relevant resources, I have decided to start a new series on my blog called "Web Development Resources" where I share resources(like courses, websites, books, tools, etc..) that I find of most value to me and hopefully also to you.

Since this is the first article of the series, I have put together a list of 5 resources that I have used in the past to learn and get better in web development. So without further delay, let's dive in!

1. FreeCodeCamp.org

Number one on my list is FreeCodeCamp, the first resource that I started with. It is an astonishing website/platform that has helped me and many others learn to code by completing code challenges and building projects. As of writing this article, there are 12(including 1 legacy) certifications available in FreeCodeCamp. I recommend you complete all of them in the correct order to get a solid understanding of web development. If you want, you could skip the parts where you also learn about Python, but I highly recommend you not to, because I learned python from FreeCodeCamp and I think that it is a really valuable skill to have.

They also have a YouTube Channel where they upload free courses for almost all types of web developers. (frontend, backend, full-stack and many more..)

2. W3Shools

This is another cool website with tons of tutorials, guides, quizzes how-tos, and recently they have added courses too. I find this website to be very useful to me as I mostly use it as a reference to HTML-related stuff when I'm working with JSX. For example, when I don't remember what attributes a certain <tag> has or, what CSS properties to use for certain situations, the list goes on and on. I can easily find answers to this from the W3Schools website. Here are some of the references I use from the website:

3. MDN Web Docs

This is also another website a lot of developers, including myself use as a reference. It includes a lot more references/guides to web technologies (i.e. HTML, CSS, JavaScript) compared to W3Schools. It also includes documentation for developers and developer tools too. I suggest you bookmark W3Schools as well as this website if you constantly keep forgetting stuff like me and want a quick reference.

4. YouTube Tutorials

Free YouTube videos are outstanding resources that have made me get better at my web development skills. Even on YouTube, there are many programming/web development channels/creators, so here are some of my favourites:

5. Sitepoint

Sitepoint is a great place to find content related to web development, web design, programming, entrepreneurship and many more. I have been using Sitepoint for almost a year and I think that it might be a really helpful platform for you to get better at web development.

Thanks for reading...

Well, that's it for today's article. Thank you very much for making it this far, share and give a like if you enjoyed reading this article. And as I said earlier in this article, this is the first article of the new series that I have created, where I post about web development resources that I find to be the most valuable. And this is also the second article for the first week of the #2Articles1Week challenge I'm taking part in. If you want to learn more about it, read the first article of the challenge, where I wrote about Diving Into The World Of Content Writing As A Developer.
